How to Survive Year Nine at Hillcrest High School

Year nine is tough. It's a big change from intermediate school and it's hard to get through without a little bit of guidance.
That's where I come in, I make the mistakes so you don't have to.

The first thing you should do is familiarize yourself with the Hillcrest High School Website,
on this site it has all of the formal rules and procedures of the school.

Wearing Your Uniform

Make sure you wear your correct uniform always. If you have the wrong uniform on, not only do you look stupid to your peers, but you are also a target to teachers.
In year nine you should be wearing the junior Hillcrest uniform.It's pretty simple to get the shirts and skirts/shorts right but the part that most
people get in trouble for is their shoes or socks. Girls should wear plain black or navy ankle socks or tights. Boys must wear knee legth navy socks.
Your shoes must also be black and leather. Your dean has enough to deal with, don't make your uniform part of that.

The Canteen

When ordering your lunch from the canteen, there is a few guidelines you should follow.

• If you are paying for your canteen lunch with eftpos do not stand in a cash only line. Not only is it frustrating waiting in a line
  only to get to the front and have to wait all over again, but it is embarrassing because you can just see the judgment in the eyes of the students and canteen ladies.
• The canteen is so full of delicious snacks that it can be a bit daunting until you learn your favourite. There's a few that I reach for every time:
  A chicken burger - chicken burgers are probably the best thing you can order, everybody likes the chicken-y mayo-y goodness.
  A butter chicken wrap - these things are delicious. Butter chicken and rice in a tortilla might sound bizarre but this cultural infusion tastes amazing
  Garlic bread - with the choice of plain or cheesey, garlic bread is a great option, especially since it's very cheap! Although I would suggest chewing
  some gum before talking to anyone. But - another tip - don't chew gum in class, the teachers will hate you.

Using Your Diary

Once you reach year 9, your diary (pictured above) becomes your bible. Make sure you write any assignments and important meetings into your school diary because with so many
teachers wanting so many things, it isn't hard to forget about one thing or another. Don't be the one person in your class who always forgets their homework.
